No hot water? Here's what to check before you call us
Most no-hot-water faults come down to one of four things: low boiler pressure, a tripped fuse, a stuck diverter valve or a frozen condensate pipe. If basic checks don't fix it, we cover Dereham and the whole of Norfolk for same-day repairs.
Common causes
1. Low boiler pressure
Pressure gauge below 1 bar means the boiler will lock out. Top up using the filling loop until it reads between 1 and 1.5 bar.
2. Tripped fuse / RCD
Check the consumer unit. A tripped RCD will cut power to the boiler — reset it and listen for the boiler firing up.
3. Stuck diverter valve
If you have heating but no hot water (or vice versa), the diverter valve has likely seized. This needs an engineer.
4. Frozen condensate pipe
Common in winter. The white plastic pipe leaving the boiler outside will be blocked with ice — thaw with warm (not boiling) water.
Try these first
- Check pressure (1–1.5 bar cold).
- Reset the boiler using the manual reset button.
- Check the consumer unit for tripped fuses.
- In freezing weather, check the external condensate pipe.
