Help & Diagnosis

No central heating but hot water still works?

Heating out but hot water fine is a classic diverter valve fault. Both out usually means a power, gas or pressure issue. We attend most no-heat call-outs across Dereham and Norfolk the same day.

    Common causes

    1. Stuck diverter valve

If you have hot water but no heat (or vice versa), the diverter has likely seized. Engineer fix.

    2. Thermostat or programmer fault

Dead batteries or a failed programmer will stop the boiler asking for heat.

    3. Low boiler pressure

Below 1 bar — top up and reset.

    4. Pump failure

An older pump can stop circulating water around the rads. Usually replaceable within a couple of hours.

    Try these first

    • Check the room thermostat is calling for heat and has fresh batteries.
    • Top boiler pressure up to 1–1.5 bar.
    • Make sure TRVs aren't all turned down to frost setting.
